I heard an economist this morning say that if we did nothing, it would take a couple of DECADES for our economy to level out and turn around. Doing nothing is not an option. I’m not thrilled with all the spending that’s going on or the new spending that is going to be coming in the future anymore than the rest of you. If the stimulus bill is not the answer than what is? Would you rather have the government do nothing and let the country go into a depression? Because that’s what would happen and a depression is extremely hard to turn around. So what’s your answer to this problem?

Remember the so-called “peace dividend” at the end of the cold war? Democrats were salivating at the thought of spending all the money we would get by closing military bases.

Can there be any doubt that Congress would be spending this money regardless of our financial situation? If not, isn’t it hypocritical of Congress to be passing this bill in the name of “stimulation”?
Celebrate, thanks for answering, but that was not responsive to the question asked. The question is about spending. I’m asking if this spending bill would look any different, given the current makeup of the Congress, if there were no recession.

The question isn’t about Bush or how we came to be in this mess.

(Personally, I blame both parties and am a member of neither, but that is not relevant either.)
Bryan, good point. I forgot about the tax cuts. Those would likely disappear.

I appreciate your input and value your opinion, but right now I’m just looking for your opinion on the above question only.

(And for the record, I think we can all agree that it is immoral to kill.)

The House of Representatives passed an Iraq spending bill last week.

The Senate just passed a different spending bill.

Do they now get together and finalize a bill that both House and Senate sign off on, and then send that to the President?

And, if the President doesn’t sign it (which he won’t - he already said he is the decider, and he has decided he won’t allow a bill that requires a timeline), do the troops whither away and starve? What happens?

And why are the politicians using the troops as chips in a poker game? That is disgraceful (on both sides), in my opinion.

I have documented at least 6 times that Obama said he passed a bill that had no ear marks, when the final bill has billions of dollars in ear marks. He will always be a liar. Only 1424 days of torture left, but I already feel like it’s the end. He is an embarrassment.
